Are Ice cream makers worth the money?

Definitely! Go for it.... Even if all you do is pour a big jar of fruit yoghurt into it and freeze that (which is gorgeous)....

I think so it costs less money to buy the ingredients to make ice cream than it does to buy it from the store and the stuff you make at home is much better for you. You know what you put into it. Think about it.

They are great if you do some outdoor entertaining or have children. Those new little indoor ones with the frozen tub aren’t half as good as the old outdoor, ice and salt versions.
A lot times homemade icecream is about the memories it stirs up and the memories it creates.

No. You can live without ice cream. You do not need to buy at the store or buy an ice cream maker. You buy them to have something to do at a party. There is a recipe for ice cream which uses plastic bags, milk, cream, salt and ice. It works just as well at a party.

Boy, does that bring back memories! All our birthdays were in May, and our big treat was homemade ice cream. Even before they had the electric ice cream makers, when you had to hand crank them, it was worth it!

I use mine very rarely. It’s just much easier to buy ice cream now-a-days. You have to buy the salt, milk and extras for making ice cream. It doesn’t stay frozen like regular ice cream, and melts easily. You can buy powered ice cream and just add milk with ice cream makers. If you want to have some fun and try different things it’s worth it. But actually I don’t know anyone that has one that uses theirs all the time. If you have kids, they really enjoy making it. Kids are always curious about where or how things are made. I wouldn’t buy an expensive one, because in the end it will probably only gather dust. One good thing I learned from making ice cream is that the rock salt you use can be poured on poison ivy and it will kill it.

HOMEMADE ICE CREAM
2 pkgs. Vanilla instant pudding
2 lg. Cans evaporated milk
1 can condensed milk
3 tsp. Vanilla
2 qts. Milk
1 pt. Cream
2 c. Sugar
6 eggs
Beat eggs. Add sugar, evaporated milk, condensed milk, vanilla, and instant pudding. Mix with mixer. Then add milk and cream. Makes 1 (6 quart) freezer of homemade ice cream.

Sure, making your own is satisfying, but with a bit of patience and a decently powerful jug blender – or even a lot of patience and a fork – you can make your own without one. Simply freeze the ingredients in a shallow dish, and mash/whizz it every couple of hours to break up the ice crystals.

I think that if you make lots of icecream and like experimenting making flavours which can’t be bought in the shops then I think am icecream maker will give better results than trying to make it without one, but if you don’t really make icecream very often then you might be as well off buying it from the shop. After all the manufacturer have had years of experience making icecream and it tastes good.
