Reviews on ice cream makers?

I want to start making my own ice cream, but don't know where to start for research. If anyone could recommend a website to see differences, or has any tips on what to look for in buying a maker, would love to hear it.

Thanks!

go to wal-mart or go to google and get iccream recipies or just go to a library near u and chek out a recipe book for ice cream is it hot there? its freezing over here in the mountains at colorado

Do different ice cream makers make different ice cream?
like

say there's icecream maker A and B

and i want soft ice cream

would A only make soft
and B only make thick

or do icecream makers just do the same thing?

Most home ice cream makers make hard ice cream. Soft serve typically requires a different type of machine. There is one home machine that takes hard ice cream and turns it into soft serve but it does not actually make ice cream.

I own 3 ice cream makers. One that has a bowl that you freeze, one that uses ice and rock salt and one that has a self contained freezer unit.

What are the best brands of ice cream makers?

I want to buy an ice cream maker that works really well and is easy to use. What are some of the best brands to choose from in the $30 to $50 range?

Best budget ice-cream maker.Reviews say the countertop Cuisinart ICE-20 consistently delivers 1.5 quarts of creamy ice cream in about 20 minutes. The catch (as with all models under $100) is that you need to pre-freeze its gel-filled canister for 10 hours (depending on your freezer). An opening in the top makes adding ingredients simple, and the Cuisinart ice-cream maker cleans up easily. An automatic shut-off function prevents the motor from overheating. Users say this machine is a bit noisy, but it's quieter than its two-quart sibling, the Cuisinart ICE-30 (*est. $90). Compressor ice-cream makers don't need any pre-freezing, but they cost at least $150 more.

Electric Ice Cream Maker

The reasons people get started making their own ice cream are many.  For a lot of people it is the fun that compiling the ingredients and working the ice cream maker is and how it can become another great part of any family event.  The memory of being on the farm with the aunts and uncle and grandparents and everybody having a role to play in making the ice cream with the old, hand-cranked churn is a strong one for a lot of adults.  So by recreating that event with their own ice cream maker, it becomes part of the memories the kids will have of growing up too.

When you buy your ice cream maker to make this part of your family life become a reality, the choices are pretty broad.  You can get a modern churn that looks somewhat like the old fashioned kind but you still work it on the porch with family members taking turns working the crank so the ice mixes with the ingredients inside to make great ice cream.  There are old-fashioned models of ice cream makers that, although not old, look like throw backs to another time in history.  And of course, finding an antique ice cream maker can really make the experience authentic.  You might hesitate at using that unit because of its age.  It makes a great display piece in the living room and a great conversation starter though.

There are also ice cream makers that are nothing like the old-fashioned kind at all.  They are electric models that are fully automated.  They look and perform very much like any other kitchen appliance.  You compile the ingredients the same and put it all together.  But when you plug it in and let it go, the gentle whirring sound lets you know it is churning the ice cream.  It all happens in the kitchen so some of the ambiance of the family working on the ice cream on the porch is lost.

Whether or not to use an electric ice cream maker is a decision that you should make before making your purchase decision.  There are some real advantages to going this route.  For one thing, the churning action is consistent and continuous when it is being handled automatically.  So the ice cream is made more efficiently.  By letting the machine do the churning, you take much of the tedium out of the process.  You don’t have to time how long to churn because the machine does that and it knows when to stop because it can gauge when the ice cream has "set up" inside the interior chamber.

The good news is that you don’t have to give up the atmosphere and the fun of having the whole family involved just because you want to get an ice cream maker that automates the churning.  There are models made to look like the old-fashioned kind and models that can be operated on the porch.  In most cases, that constant churning was something the family dreaded anyway.  So by automating that part and combining the best of technology with the old-fashioned art of making your own ice cream, you get the best of both worlds.

Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker

There is nothing like the fun of making ice cream at home to give your back yard barbeque that authentic old fashioned feel.  But when you go to buy an ice cream maker, you will find that some of the finest new models are far from primitive.  A new ice cream maker can cost as little as $40 or be as expensive as $500 depending on how elaborate you want the features.  While some of the most sophisticated models such as the ones sold by Cuisinart are pricey, the ice cream product you end up making will come out consistently good and of the perfect kind of quality that you want from your own ice cream.

A quality ice cream maker like the Cuisinart model is operated by electric motor and it uses rock salt to freeze the ice cream in the internal chamber in a consistent fashion.  In a way, by moving away from the hand crank models of ice cream makers, you lose a little of that feel of sitting on the back porch at Grandma's farm turning that crank to make the ice cream set up inside of that old fashioned churn.  But truthfully, the charm of the crank method pales when it is hard to get someone to sit on the back porch and turn the crank.  And the gentle sound of the Cuisinart motor working away in the kitchen to make tonight's desert of delicious and very fresh ice cream can become a tradition of family gatherings as well.

Of course, the machine doesn’t make great ice cream.  You make great ice cream but coming up with a delicious recipe that produces a rich blend each time.  Now, if you invest in a good ice cream maker like a Cuisinart, you probably will develop dozens if not hundreds of ice cream variations that you can whip up in your homemade ice cream maker.  Your core ingredients of cream, sugar, vanilla and maybe egg to make the ice cream rich and smooth will remain pretty much standard.  But after you dump those basic building blocks of ice cream into the ice cream maker, you can then add your custom ingredients.

Just watching the fruit, nuts, chocolate chips or other wonderful flavors going into the ice cream maker can get your mouth watering for the finished product.  So when you put the lid on the interior container and seal it up and plug it in, the anticipation alone is a big part of the fun.  A quality ice cream maker like the Cuisinart model "knows" when the ice cream is ready because it can tell by the consistency of the blend in the interior chamber.  You then take the ice cream out and slap back the hands that want a sample so the ice cream can then be put in the freezer for a few hours to come out and delight the entire family for desert that night.

A good ice cream maker will get plenty of work out making great ice creams at family events.  Between events, if you are like many ice cream lovers, you will find yourself "playing" with new recipes and variations on the core ingredients to find new and fun ways to make ice cream that has your own personal stamp on it.  But that is the fun of making ice cream at home and it is what makes buying a good quality ice cream maker a great investment in fine eating.

Choosing Ice Cream Makers For Your Summer Entertainment

Ice cream makers bring back memories for many people of lazy summer days and warm summer evenings of childhood. You can enjoy frozen treats every summer, or any season for that matter. All you have to do is to choose the ice cream makers that you like the best.

There are basically 5 different types of makers. They are: the traditional hand crank, the electric, the combination hand crank and electric, the nostalgic, and the  automatic ice cream makers. Which kind you get will depend on several factors.

First, you need to know how important sentiment is to you. If an old-fashioned maker is what you want, you will probably want a hand crank ice cream bucket. These come in different sizes from 4 quarts to 6 quarts. You can churn the ice cream just as your grandfather did using this type of set-up.

There are electric makers for sale that look and work just like the hand crank models in every way but one. They turn by an electric motor instead of by hand. You may feel that you do not have the strength or the perseverance to crank ice cream by hand until it is ready. An electric maker can do most of the work for you. All you will have to do is to check to make sure the ice keeps moving and add rock salt when necessary.

You might want the capability of using a hand crank at times, even though you generally prefer the electric motorized one. For you, there are ice cream makers that will do both. These are generally marketed as electric machines with a hand crank added into the package.

Another type of nostalgic ice cream maker is a carnival style machine. These are nostalgic in looks only. They may look old fashioned, but they are really modern electric appliances. If you are more concerned with looks and convenience than authenticity, these might be for you.

A more modern type of ice cream machines are the automatic ones. These look nothing like the more traditional bucket-style ice cream makers. They look more like an average small kitchen appliance, such as a food processor or blender. They sit on the countertop and make frozen treats in about 30 minutes.

Ice cream is just a part of summer for most people. Many will eat ice cream year round, especially if they have the means to make it easily. With all the different types of ice cream makers, you are sure to find one that fits with your lifestyle.

How to Choose a Good Ice Cream Maker?

Tan Wei Loo asked:

"How To Choose A Good Ice Cream Maker?"

Ice cream! Everyone loves it.  But sometime when we craved for it at inconvenient times, where do we going to find it? Why not make your favorite ice cream right at home? All you need to know is how to choose a good ice cream maker.

Ice cream makers are available in a wide range of prices from around $50 right up to $500. Some models cost so much because they have a built in freezing compressor. For home users, the lower priced models will be fine. There are two basic types of ice cream maker to choose from. One uses rock salt and ice to cool the ice cream mix, while another ice cream maker has a canister that you put in the freezer to cool the mix. If you are going to making large amount of ice cream, you will want to purchase ice cream maker that uses rock salt and ice, because the canister only makes 1.5 quarts. The electric crank ice cream maker is faster and easier.

You will get better results because the bowl turns at a constant speed.

Once you have choose the ice cream maker that you want, you need to find the right ice cream recipe. There are many varieties available so try a few until you find the perfect one.

Ice cream’s taste will become richer and texture will be smoother if you are able to freeze ice cream faster. Pre mix your ingredients and then pre chill them for at least 5 hours before putting them in the ice cream maker also helps.

You will know your ice cream is done by the look of it. It will look like soft ice cream. Once the canister has been in the freezer for a couple of hours you’ll have a nice looking solid texture ice cream. If you want your ice cream to freeze faster just move it to a metal bowl, cover it foil, and place it in the freezer. It will freeze up in ½ the time used to freeze in a plastic canister.

Choosing the Best Ice Cream Maker

Ice Cream Makers

You can make delicious ice cream at home, as good as any premium store brand, if you choose a good ice cream maker and follow a few tips. Ice cream makers can range in price from under $100 to over $500. The more expensive models contain built in freezing compressors. The less expensive models are perfectly suited for use in the home and come in two basic types. There is the type that uses rock salt and ice to cool the ice cream mixture and the type that has a canister that is placed in the freezer. Each of these is equipped with an electric crank or a manual crank. Your particular needs will determine which is right for you.

default Choosing the Best Ice Cream Maker

If you want to make a large quantity of ice cream, you will need to purchase a model that uses rock salt and ice. The canister models will only make up to 1.5 quarts at a time. If you would like to turn ice cream making into a family activity, you can choose the hand-crank model, which will also use rock salt and ice. The crank must be turned manually for a fairly long period of time, thus allowing each family member a turn. An electric crank is quite a bit easier than the manual crank models. You will also get more consistent results due to the bowl turning at a constant speed. Most electric crank ice cream makers will have an automatic cut off feature that will stop the motor when the ice cream reaches the desired consistency. The consistency is judged by the amount of resistance while the bowl is turning.

After you choose which type of ice cream maker is right for you, you will need to find the perfect ice cream recipe. Remember that the faster the ice cream freezes, the better it will taste and the smoother the texture will be. It will be best to pre-mix all your ingredients and let them chill for several hours before placing them in the ice cream maker. When your ice cream is done, it will resemble soft-serve ice cream. You can place the canister in the freezer for a few hours and you will be much happier with the results. If your canister is plastic, consider removing the ice cream as soon as it is done, and placing it in a metal bowl covered with foil. The metal will allow the ice cream to freeze faster and become firmer more quickly than in a plastic container.

You can purchase a mix that is quite easy to make into ice cream very quickly. While the mixes are convenient, the best homemade ice cream is made from fresh ingredients. Milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and cocoa if you desire will give you the best results. You can find numerous ice cream recipes, some which require cooking some which require no cooking. The ice cream recipes that do not require cooking are generally just as good as the cooked type, and require a lot less time. The best ice cream recipes usually contain eggs, however there are many recipes that do not use eggs if you or someone in your family is allergic to eggs.
