I bought this new Ice Cream Maker and thought I share yet another kitchen gadget with you all
Ice Cream Recipe I used:
Chocolate Gelato Recipe
Ingredients:
2 ounces fine-quality bittersweet chocolate (not unsweetened)
2 1/4 cups whole milk
1/3 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup minus 2 tablespoons superfine granulated sugar
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
4 large egg yolks
Preparation:
Coarsely chop chocolate.
In a 2-quart heavy saucepan bring milk, cream, and about half of sugar just to a simmer, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove pan from heat and add cocoa powder and chocolate, whisking until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth.
Have ready a large bowl of ice and cold water. In a bowl with an electric mixer beat yolks and remaining sugar until thick and pale. Add hot chocolate mixture in a slow stream, whisking, and pour into saucepan. Cook custard over moderately low heat, stirring constantly, until a thermometer registers 170°F. (Do not let boil.
Pour custard through a sieve into a metal bowl set in ice and cold water and cool. Chill custard, covered, until cold.
Freeze custard in an ice-cream maker. Transfer to an airtight container and put in freezer to harden, 1 to 3 hours.
Makes about 1 quart.

I have an old Proctor-Silex Ice Cream maker (around 1975). I do not have the directions to this machine. I would also like to know: How much rock salt? How much ice will it take? Maybe Ice Milk?
Thank you.
INGREDIENTS
4 eggs
2 1/2 cups white sugar
2 cups heavy cream
2 cups evaporated milk
5 cups whole milk
2 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/4 teaspoons lemon extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
DIRECTIONS
In a mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar until stiff. Stir in cream, evaporated milk, whole milk, vanilla, lemon extract and salt until well combined. Pour into the freezer canister of an ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer's instructions.

I'm looking for one and I was told at Wal-Mart that they only carry them during the summer. I don't really have time to order one before Christmas (I don't want to spend extra to make sure it gets here on time), so I was wondering what stores I might be able to find one in.
It might be hard to considering the time of the year but some stores still may carry them as gifts. Try the following stores. Hope this helps.

I have a recipe for home made peach ice cream but it calls for a ice cream machine, Can any one tell me if there is a way to make it with out one?
You can make ice cream very simply by using ziploc bags. You fill a gallon ziploc bag with ice and rock salt, and then you use another bag and add the cream, flavoring, sugar, and other igredients. Then, place the cream mixture in the ice bag and shake until the ice cream thickens and then freeze the mixture. (I suggest wrapping the ice bag with a towel, or putting it in an empty coffee can so it doesnt get too cold)
I've only ever tried this with vanilla ice cream, but I think it would work for other flavors too because you're essentially just freezing the mixture in a different way. I hope this helps!
