Question by K W: Little Johnny rushes home from school, opens the freezer and starts scooping out cherry vanilla ice cream...?
His mum enters the kitchen and says, "Put that away, Johnny. You can't have ice cream now. It's too close to supper time. Go outside and play."
Johnny says, "There's no one to play with."
Trying to please him, she says, "OK. I'll play with you. What do you want to play?"
He says, "I wanna play Mummy and Daddy."
Trying not to register surprise, she says, "Fine, I'll play. What do I do?"
Johnny says, "You go up to the bedroom and lie down."
Figuring that she can easily control the situation, Mum goes upstairs.
Johnny, feeling a bit cocky, swaggers down the hall, gets his fathers old hat and coat, picks a cigar out of the ashtray and slips it in the corner of his mouth, and tucks a paper under his arm. At the top of the stairs he moves to the bedroom doorway. His mother raises her head and says, "What do I do now?"

In a gruff manner, Johnny says, "Get your lazy butt downstairs and get that kid some ice cream."

Grapefruit Sorbet

2 Grapefruit SorbetViking Chef Chris Green puts the Ruby Red grapefruits from Mission, Texas, to work in this recipe for Grapefruit Sorbet.
Servings: 4
Ingredients:
2 large ruby grapefruits, juiced, or 1 1/2 cups pink grapefruit juice
1 tsp. grapefruit zest (zest before juicing grapefruit)
1/2 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tbs. vodka
1 tsp. grenadine (optional)

Instructions: Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan; bring to a boil and stir to dissolve sugar. Cool completely.

Combine the grapefruit juice, zest and sugar/water mixture with the vodka and optional grenadine (for color) in a metal bowl. Chill in the refrigerator or by placing the metal bowl over a larger bowl filled with ice water until 40 degrees.

Pour chilled mixture into container of an ice cream machine and churn until frozen.

Scoop frozen sorbet into a container. Seal and transfer container to freezer for several hours to allow sorbet to firm up. (Sorbet can be kept frozen for up to 3 days.)
